How Long Does a Partition Wall Take to Build?
Day 1: Framing. Steel-stud track and stud installed, door rough opening framed with proper jamb and header, any in-wall blocking for shelving or fixtures. Electrician comes in to rough-in switches and outlets.
Day 2: Hanging. Drywall panels cut and fastened on both sides with Type S screws at 12 inches on centre in the field, or at the tighter spacing the ULC listing calls for on fire-rated walls. Type X where the partition is rated, moisture-resistant board (often called waterproof drywall) for partitions around bathrooms and laundry rooms, and standard 1/2-inch elsewhere.
Days 3 to 5: Taping, mudding, and sanding. Every drywall seam is taped, then three coats of mud go on with drying time between, followed by dustless HEPA sanding to a Level 4 finish ready for paint.
For a single new private office in an existing open-plan space, that’s 2 to 3 working days of our time spread across a week of drying time. For larger fit-outs with multiple offices and a corridor, the schedule scales, but the per-partition timing stays the same.
